Indian Railways Obstructiveness
When I reached Delhi next day I tried to cancel the ticket from internet, it alerted that this ticket cannot be cancelled from internet as this is i-ticket. Then I checked on the site for more details and found that e-ticket (which you print at your end can be cancelled but i-ticket which is sent to you as a normal railways printed ticket cannot be cancelled online.)
I called up customer care and briefed them about the issue and was told to take this ticket to any computerised booking center, from there you get your ticket cancelled and you will be given TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt), which further needs to be sent to Chief Commercial Manager, Northern Railways via normal post and then your account will be credited.
My father went to the nearest booking center and was told this kind of cancellation is only done at window no.18 at New Delhi railway station. He went there and got the TDR after standing in queue for 2 hours.
After having gone through such a horrid time and still money is not being refunded. What Indian Railways need to understand that passengers book tickets online because they want to avoid queues and are short of time. They need to have some respect for time of their customers. If they could make cancellation of e-tickets online, it should not be that difficult to do the same for i-tickets. Just hoping Mr. Laloo Prasad and his ministry tries to improve their system of working to cause customers less agony and keep them happy but Indian Railways is a monoply anyways…nobody bothers , customers don’t have a choice.
They also should give an option to customer to book return ticket online at the same time when they are booking their ticket for going to a place. The customer should be charged for courier charges once and should be sent tickets in one courier rather than sending tickets seperately. There mismanagement is causing loss to public and unacceptable gains for courier company.

Here it finally is. The map I worked pretty hard for. Essentially what I did is took the TAAG map as a reference and then added in all the details from the zonal TT maps, added in other information culled from other sources, and finally had a good look at what felt missing and added that in.

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is a subsidiary of the Indian Railways that handles the catering, tourism and online ticketing operations of the railways.

IRCTC is in charge of catering services on trains and railway stations across India. Depending on the distance covered by the train and average passenger load factor, the railways either equips trains with their own pantry cars or provides meals at select stations en route.

IRCTC is better known for changing the face of railway ticketing in India. It pioneered Internet-based rail ticket booking through its website, as well as from mobile phones via GPRS or SMS. Ticket cancellations or modifications can also be done online. In addition to E-tickets, IRCTC also offers I-tickets that are basically like regular tickets except that they are booked online and delivered by post.
Commuters on Mumbai's suburban railway can also book season tickets through the IRCTC website.
IRCTC has also recently launched a loyalty program called "Shubh Yatra" for frequent travellers. Through this program, passengers can avail of discounts on all tickets booked round the year by paying an upfront annual fee.[1]

Railways to run 2,872 special trains for summer rush
The Indian Railways will run 2,872 special trains across the country during summer to clear the extra rush of passengers during the holiday season, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee announced Tuesday.
'These special trains will have 4,326 coaches to ensure even the wait-listed passengers are able to travel. As hundreds of college students from north India and Bengal study in far-away places like Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, we want them to reach their homes quicker,' Banerjee said at a railway function.
The railways will also provide an additional 1,562 berths for ensuring reservation from stations en-route.
As part of its massive expansion, Banerjee said her ministry would take up new infrastructure projects such as automobile hubs and logistics parks to leverage the 113,000 acres of vacant railway lands across the country.
'We plan to develop 10 automobile hubs across the country. One such park has already been developed at Shalimar in Howrah division. Of the remaining nine automobile hubs, one each will be set up in Bangalore and Mangalore in Karnataka,' Banerjee said before flagging off three new trains in the the South Western Railway zone.
Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who was present on the occasion, said his government would increase the budgetary allocation for the state's share in the railway projects to Rs.600 crore in the next fiscal (2010-11) from Rs.243 crore in this fiscal (2009-10).
